Student aid, awards, and budgeting help for Toronto Metropolitan University students.

---

This is what paying for a TMU degree actually looks like: what OSAP covers, which awards close before you think, and where the money goes once it lands.

## FAQs

### Does Toronto Metropolitan University use OSAP?

Yes. TMU is an Ontario university, so if Ontario is your province of residence you apply through OSAP, Ontario's student assistance program. OSAP combines grants you don't repay with loans you do.

### Can I get OSAP as an out-of-province student at TMU?

You apply to your home province's program, not Ontario's. A student from Alberta studying at TMU applies through Alberta Student Aid. The school you attend doesn't determine which program funds you. Your province of residence does.

### Do I have to apply separately for TMU scholarships?

Some are automatic. If you're admitted from a Canadian secondary school with a final average of 86% or higher, you're guaranteed a renewable entrance scholarship. But most continuing awards and every bursary need an application through AwardSpring, TMU's awards portal.

### What happens if my student aid doesn't cover my tuition?

You're responsible for the shortfall by the payment deadline. Options include TMU's bursaries, a payment arrangement with Collection Services, or a student line of credit. Bursary money doesn't have to be paid back, so it's worth applying first.

### Do I need to file taxes as a TMU student with no income?

You should. Filing is how you claim your T2202 tuition credit and carry it forward, and it's what registers you for benefits like the GST/HST credit. Skipping it leaves money unclaimed.
