### Apply to Alberta Student Aid (Mid-June)

Applications for the upcoming academic year open early to mid-June. You don't need to be accepted to MRU to apply, so don't wait. Apply for the full year (September to April) if you plan to attend both fall and winter.

Pay in full by this date. Fall has two fee deadlines; miss the first one in August and you're de-registered from your courses and charged a $150 re-registration fee.

## FAQs

### Does Mount Royal University use OSAP?

No. OSAP is Ontario's program. If Alberta is your province of residence, you apply through Alberta Student Aid, even if you moved to Calgary for school. Your province of residence is generally the last province you lived in for 12 consecutive months outside of full-time study.

### Can I get Alberta Student Aid as an out-of-province student at MRU?

You apply to your home province's program, not Alberta's. A student from Ontario studying at MRU applies through OSAP. The school you attend doesn't determine which program funds you, your province of residence does.

### Do I have to apply separately for MRU scholarships?

Yes. MRU's awards application runs from Nov 1 to Mar 1 each year through MyMRU. One application covers entrance and in-course scholarships, bursaries, and awards. Automatic consideration covers far less than students assume.

### What happens if my student aid doesn't cover my tuition?

You're responsible for the shortfall by the fee deadline. Options include MRU bursaries, a payment arrangement with Student Fees, or a student line of credit, in that order, since bursary money doesn't have to be paid back.

### Do I need to file taxes as an MRU student with no income?

You should. Filing is how you claim your T2202 tuition credit and carry it forward, and it's what registers you for benefits like the GST/HST credit. Skipping it leaves money unclaimed.
